About three months after splitting from James Crick, the Astros announced Thursday that they are hiring Dana Brown as their next GM. Brown comes to Houston with extensive experience as a baseball executive. Most recently, he spent the last four seasons in Atlanta as vice president of scouting for the Braves.
Brown’s resume also includes nine seasons (2010-18) as special assistant general manager with the Toronto Blue Jays and nine years (2001-09) as director of scouting with the Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos. Prior to that, in Pittsburgh he worked for the Pirates organization for eight years.
“We are thrilled to have Dana join our organization,” Astros owner Jim Crane said in a press release. We welcome Dana and his family to the Astros family.”
Given Crane’s own recent comments, the seemingly sudden hiring of Brown is a somewhat surprising development. According to the Houston Chronicle, Crane said of the GM search Wednesday night while speaking at the Houston Sports Awards: We are scanning the crowd now. …take your time and get it right. “

Steven Strasberg and Ryan Zimmerman It’s looking to bolster the Astros’ roster, which is already the best player in baseball, so it should fit in nicely.
