Former President Donald Trump’s top adviser, Hope Hicks, said “we all look like domestic terrorists” when the Capitol riots unfold on Jan. 6, 2021. Ivanka Trump told an aide to
In a text released by a House committee on Jan. 6, Hicks expressed concern about the consequences of Trump’s actions against Julie Radford, who was Ivanka Trump’s chief of staff at the time.
“One day he ended all future opportunities that didn’t include a speaking engagement at the local Proud Boys chapter,” Hicks said, seemingly referring to the then-president.
“Yes,” replied Radford.
“And all of us who didn’t have jobs lined up would be permanently unemployed,” Hicks continued.
“I am so angry and upset,” Hicks wrote. “We look like domestic terrorists now.”
Hicks also appeared to refer to former Trump Communications Director Alyssa Farrar Griffin, who resigned from the White House in December 2020, saying she “seems like a genius.”
Hicks and Radford also texted about Stephanie Grisham’s resignation as chief of staff to former First Lady Melania Trump on the day of the Capitol raid.
They kept talking about Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s supermodel stepson, Karlie Kloss. Karlie Kloss attacked the then-president in a series of tweets on Jan. 6 for refusing to accept the 2020 election results.
After Hicks shared Kloss’s tweet, Radford replied, “It’s unreal.”
The exchange of texts is included in a document released by the Commission after the Panel released its formal report late last month. In its report, the committee detailed evidence that Trump oversaw a multifaceted effort to overturn the outcome of an election he knew he had lost.
The report comes after a unanimous committee voted that the Justice Department pursue criminal charges against Trump for his role in the attack and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Hicks was interviewed by the committee in October, held several key posts during his presidency, and was one of Trump’s closest friends in the White House. She left the White House just days after the Jan. 6 riots after serving as an adviser to the president. She previously served as White’s Director of Communications and Strategic Communications for her House. .
Prior to joining Trump’s White House, Hicks worked for Trump’s presidential campaign, the Trump Organization, and Ivanka Trump’s fashion brand.
