Data from Barlovento Comunicación show that more and more Spaniards are spending less time watching free-to-air (FTA) TV and more time watching pay TV.
In 2022, Spaniards will spend an average of 190 minutes a day watching FTA TV. This is his 11% decrease from 214 minutes the previous year. 2022 will be the lowest year for FTA TV consumption since 1992, while pay TV, on the contrary, has increased his 14% to account for 10% share. The most widely watched channel is Movistar’s La Liga TV.
Additionally, Spaniards are increasingly watching TV over the Internet, using well-established streaming services, local VoD services, YouTube, and others, growing by 17%. Average about 35 minutes per person per day.
On FTA TV, Atresmedia has an average audience rating of 27.2% across all six TV channels, followed by Mediaset with 26.2% and public broadcaster RTVE with 14.7%.
In terms of advertising, the current cost of living crisis and the continued boom in streaming services and social networks caused TV to fall by 5% to €1.7 billion, according to the consultancy.
