About two months ago I wrote an article suggesting that President Biden would replace Vice President Kamala Harris with California Governor Gavin Newsom and then resign. My intention was to ignite a debate about the viability of a ticket led by either Biden or Harris. elicited a reaction. TueeTin“Competition is fierce, but here are the top five worst political views of all time.”
I’m grateful to Silver for pushing me to the “best 5th place of all time”, but I didn’t expect anyone to take this idea literally. Looking ahead to the 2024 presidential election, many, including some liberals, believe Democrats could be in trouble if they don’t look beyond the current White House occupants.
Some Democrats have told me they don’t think either Biden or Harris will give their party the best chance in the next election. Some people worry that Because Harris is the first woman and the first person of color to be elected Vice President, which holds a special place in American history. As one Democrat told me:
That’s right. In November 2020, I acknowledged Harris’ place in history, writing: For the first time in America, American history unfolds before our very eyes. When Kamala Harris places her hand on her Bible and takes her oath of office, she becomes the first female Vice President of the United States. …Most Americans take great pride in the achievement, but I suspect that tens of millions of our fellow citizens will literally cry tears of joy. As she watches Harris recite her vows, she will see a part of herself reflected in her glory. …the daughter of hardworking immigrants, she embodies the American dream…”
I am still proud that Harris made American history. he was impatient And no one can take it away from her.
But what now? In addition to being a history-maker, Harris is a government official who should work for the American people. So can the Democratic heavyweights separate “government officials” from “historymakers” in order to judge Harris’ achievements? A survey released in December found that only 43% of Americans approve of her performance. was suggested.
So who will give the Democrats the best chance of keeping the White House as we approach 2024? It showed that policies are alive with a razor’s edge and that elections matter more than ever.
Rhetoric from Biden supporters aside, it can be difficult to find Democrats who truly believe that Biden will actually seek or want reelection when he turns 83. More and more Democrats may think Harris doesn’t have the gravity to occupy the Oval Office, but may be reluctant to publicly state it.
Put aside history-making icons and political correctness. Democrats will find that they need someone else to nominate them as president and vice president within two years. I expect that to be proven.
