The US Senate, like the House, has addressed some of the country’s major issues this year. Indeed, House Democrats have gone to great lengths to address past political issues, especially the “big lie” about her 2020 election. But focusing on the real issue, Congress has passed major substantive legislation in 2022.
Chuck Schumer remains the leader of the Senate majority, so 2023 will likely continue to focus on real issues. It is time to repay. It’s even worse when a far-right Republican becomes chairman.
But there are alternatives. Some moderate Republicans want to unite with Democrats to elect a bipartisan House Speaker. But nearly all Democrats have to agree, and many, including my representative, Sarah Jacobs, don’t seem interested.
What benefits would that stance bring to the country? really short-sighted.

It’s hard to pinpoint when the Republican Party last broke away, but many believe it happened with the invasion of Iraq. .
Party can be changed. The Republican Party used to be the party of “wealth and privilege.” Donald Trump’s party was actually the party of the president who freed the slaves. After descendants of freed slaves struggled for and won the right to vote, they registered with the Democratic Party, causing rural and Southern whites to change parties. It brought about gun culture, fundamentalist religion, and racism.
Our system of government requires two legitimate political parties. We need strong Democrats to push us to do the right thing. We need strong Republicans to counter their noble zeal. That way we can continue to be wealthy enough to do what is right.
It may take generations, but the wheels of the Republican Party will be put back together.
