A cyclist was arrested on suspicion of robbing a store in Milledgeville at knifepoint, local authorities said.
Police arrested the suspect shortly after the crime.
According to an incident report filed by Officer Lane Aultman of the Milledgeville Police Department, the robbery occurred at approximately 9:15 pm on January 19 at the Dollar General store on Roberson Mill Road.
A man matching the description of the suspect provided by the store clerk was found by a police officer riding a bicycle with a knife in his hand.
The suspect was later identified as Jadalus McDowell. He was detained, placed in the back seat of a police car, and driven back to the Dollar General.
McDowell was charged with armed robbery and possession of a knife during the crime.
After his arrest, the suspect was taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center and jailed.
According to the store clerk, the man entered the store and walked to the back.
When the suspect returned to the front of the store, the clerk said he had dropped $5 worth of gloves.
Ms. Altman said she was about to walk out the front door of the store when a clerk asked if she would pay for the gloves.
The clerk said the man turned to her and brandished a knife, Altman said in the report.
Before leaving the store, he pointed a knife at the clerk and said, “I’ll take this.”
Altman said the clerk provided video surveillance footage that corroborated her recollection of what happened.
“Security footage showed[the suspect]exiting the front door of Dollar General and[the clerk]following behind,” Altman said. “Cameras outside the location showed[the suspect]holding a knife in her right hand, facing[her clerk]and pointing it at her before leaving the location. rice field.”
Officers later found a pair of black and blue medium-sized women’s gloves, matching the package the suspect had dropped on the store floor before leaving the store.
The gloves and knife were taken as evidence in the incident.
