Magat Dam’s gates were further opened Sunday morning to release water, a day after tropical storm pens brought heavy rains to much of Luzon.
The five radial gates of Magat Dam were scheduled to open from 7am to 11am, according to the Cagayan State Intelligence Department.
At 6 a.m. on Sunday, at the Magat Dam straddling Isabela and Ifugao, two gates (radial gates No. 3 and 4), each with a two-meter opening, were already open, PAGASA data showed. rice field.
The dam’s reservoir water level (RWL) was 191.56 meters at 6 a.m. Sunday morning, close to its outflow water level or normal high water level (NHWL) of 193 meters.
This was an increase over Saturday’s RWL of 186.94 meters at 6am.
An additional five gates will be opened on Sundays on the following schedule.
- 7am: Radial Gate No. 5 – opens 1m at 7am, widens to 2m at 7:30am
- 8:00 AM: Radial Gate No. 6 – opens 1 meter at 8:00 AM, expands to 2 meters at 8:30 AM
- 9am: Radial Gate No. 7 – opens 1m at 9am, widens to 2m at 9:30am
- 10am: Radial Gate No. 1 – opens 1m at 10am, expands to 2m at 10:30am
- 11:00 AM: Radial Gate No. 2 – opens 1 meter at 11:00 AM, widens to 2 meters at 11:30 AM
Therefore, at 11:30 am, all four radial gates of Magat Dam open at 14 meters. Located on the Magat River, the Magat Dam is a major tributary of the Cagayan River.
Tropical Storm Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2, raised by PAGASA, was hoisted up over Luzon Island 9 on Sunday morning as the pane crossed the western Philippine Sea.
