HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Longtime Hawaiian politician Ron Menner, who brought decades of “passionate service” to the legislature and elected seats on the Honolulu City Council, has passed away. he was 67 years old.
Gov. Josh Green made the news Tuesday night, saying Menner died a day earlier following an “unexpected medical emergency.”
“I will always remember Ron’s passionate service to the people of Hawaii during his many years on the legislature and the Honolulu City Council,” Green said in a statement.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Brunjadi called Menner, the former chairman of the council, a “brave civil servant.”

Menner was the son of late Hawaii Supreme Court Justices Benjamin Menner and Lillian Menner.

He served as state representative and state senator on the Honolulu City Council.
Menner began his career as a law clerk for the Supreme Court of Hawaii.
In an interview with the Hawaii State Bar Association, he said his decision to pursue law and become a civil servant was influenced by his father.
“My desire to make a difference in people’s lives is also the reason I decided to enter the legal profession,” he said.
