After becoming the first female jockey in Oak Lawn history to surpass $1 million in purse earnings at a competition last season, jockey Kelsey Haar broke another record Saturday.
Herr reached $2,811,257 in career purse income at Oak Lawn, according to statistics from Equibase, the official data collection organization for horse racing. Cindy Murphy held the career purse earnings record for a female Oak Lawn jockey ($2,792,644).
Herr surpassed Murphy’s total in his second ride when the outstanding Arkansas-bred Bandit points won $650 in the ninth race. Bandit his points was already the most influential horse of Herr’s career since he marked his career first ride and win at his Park Canterbury on 17 June 2018. Harle’s fiancé, Robert N. Klein, owns and trains the jockey’s favorite horse, Bandit Point.
“For him, it certainly felt right,” Herr said during Sunday morning’s training session. Someone told me I was $50 short, (Bandit Point) was 7th and he passed me, so I thought it was perfect. I’m glad we were together. It all started with him. It was great.”
Har, 30, started riding in Oak Lawn in 2019 and has been earning more mounts and purses season after season. With her 11 wins in her 2020, she is Oak Lawn’s leading apprentice jockey and from 2021 to 2022 she has ridden and ridden 18 winners in the competition. The prize was $1,187,724.
Primarily riding as Cindy Knoll, Murphy had 183 wins at Oak Lawn between 1997 and 2006. She remains Oak Lawn’s runaway leader among female riders for her career wins.She also scored her one of her season’s Oak Lawn wins by female riders (47) in 1999. set a record. Herr joined Sunday in her 41 wins in her Oak Lawn career, including her two this season.
A native of Tiny Slovakia, Arkansas, about 45 miles east of Little Rock, Herr has been galloping and working horses for Klein and a long-time exercise rider in Oak Lawn for Hot Springs trainer Al Cates. I am serving
