Ideologically bifurcated Jacksonville politicians are uniting behind their hometown Jaguars ahead of Saturday night’s tilt with the Tennessee Titans.
Republican and Democratic mayoral candidates are enthused about the prospect of a surging home team winning the AFC South outright in the next few hours.
Rihanna Cumberis a member of the Jacksonville City Council and one of four Republicans on a ten-man field.
“Good morning Jacksonville! It’s game day and the kids are already ready for the tailgate. The Jaguars are favored at 6.5. I’ll take that line. I think the final score will be 27-16.” What are your expectations?”
Democratic Party Donna Deegan Leading in polls and fundraising on the Democratic side, she also shows pride in her home team ahead of rival contests.
“Beautiful colors in the east and west this Saturday morning. Looking forward to lots of teal from all directions tonight at The Bank!”
Cumber and Deegan are two of ten candidates for mayor, and they and everyone else lags behind the current mayor when it comes to Jagger’s ambitions. Lenny Curryaggressively co-branded with team and owner Shad Khan throughout his almost two terms at City Hall.
Curry has been madly in love with the team for days, and this trend won’t stop until, or unless, the Jaguar season is over, and probably won’t even end there.
“Started December 11th 4-8. They were 7-5. Playing division championship tomorrow,” Curry tweeted Friday.
The Jaguars would still be on their way to a wild card seed if they lost to Tennessee, but a win would secure the fourth seed and next week will likely be a home game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the team the Jaguars lost in 2022. It becomes a game.
