Hundreds of die-hard supporters of Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro have been killed in a stunning security breach that will soon be compared to the Jan. 6 break-in of the US Capitol by Donald Trump supporters in 2021. They attacked the country’s parliament, presidential palace, and the Supreme Court.

On Sunday, one of the pro-Bolsonaro mobs marched from Brasilia’s army headquarters to Plaza de Triguni, Brazil’s political center that houses the Supreme Court, presidential palace and parliament.
Many of the militants, wearing the yellow and green Brazilian flag that has become a symbol of Bolsonaro’s far-right movement, broke through police lines and rushed to the ramp leading to the Capitol.
“Brasilia has a Capitol Day,” tweeted political commentator Rodrigo Rangel.

Shortly after Andre Janones, another prominent Lula ally, shared footage showing dozens of militants on the grounds of the Palacio do Planalto, the presidential palace where last week’s inauguration took place.
“Terrorists have invaded Planalto,” Janones murmured.
