Dixon, Illinois—Hononega’s NIC-10 women’s basketball team traveled through the snow Saturday afternoon to take on Big Northern power Dixon.
The Duchess discovers that NIC-10 already knows all too well. These Indians can play defense and fly three-pointers.
The Indians took a 27-9 lead by halftime and went on to win 50-32. They converted 11 3-pointers as he improved to 24-3 overall.
Camryn Abney converted 15 points to give Hononega the lead. Danielle Franz scored her 11 and Bre Carter scored her 9. Abney and Franz each made her three 3-pointers.
Ella Govig led Dixon with 12 points.
The Indians remained undefeated (15-0) in conference play as they beat hosts Freeport 66-46 on Friday as Carter hit five of Hononega’s 16 3-pointers for 22 points. . Arie Niedveld added his 12 points, while Franz and Abney each scored 9 points. The Indians finished with 16 3-pointers.
Raniyah Shirley leads Freeport (6-21, 3-12) with 21 points.
• SUN PRAIRIE EAST 43, BELOIT MEMORIAL 42: The Purple Knights suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Cardinals on Friday night at Birkin Arena by a single point.
Beloit held onto a 27-23 lead at halftime, with sophomore Jocelyn Tibbets entering the locker room for a solid 15-point performance.
Tibbets led the Knights on 17 points, with Thomas just behind on 16. SP East’s Lucy Stray scored his 24 points.
• Beloit Turner 50, Whitewater 43: Nadilee Fernandez hit 7-of-9 free throws to record 16 points to lead the Trojans and beat the Whippets on Friday. The Trojans made 20-of-27 free throws, including his 15-of-18 in the second half.
Jayla Hodges scored 12 points and Portia Segorstrom scored 8 points.
• EVANSVILLE 65, CLINTON 61: Ava Brandenburg hit seven second-half free throws for a game-high 26 points as the hosts Blue Devils defeated the Cougars.
Maria Mesling scored 12 points and Evansville’s Geranova Hermansson scored 11 points and made 16 of 27 free throws. The Blue Devils led the first half 38-30.
Clinton scored 18 points each from Jayden Nauttier and Tianna Rohl. Nelia Boborz added her nine. The Cougars were 13-for-26 at the free-throw line.
• DEERFIELD 46, WILLIAMS BAY 26: Deerfield led 17-7 and never looked back in the Trailways South game. Anne-Marie Cates led Williams Bay with three of his 3-pointers and 13 points.
• MCFARLAND 63, BRODHEAD 41: Sr. Abby Dix scored 16 points in the first half, but the Cardinals’ defense couldn’t slow down the Spartans-leading Rock Valley Conference in Brodhead on Friday night.
Dicks had the majority of the Brodhead’s first-half 22 points, but McFarland hit five 3-pointers en route to a 33-22 lead by halftime.
However, as the Cardinals struggled to face a powerful Spartan offense, McFarland cracked down on Dix in the second half, limiting her to just four points.
Dicks led the Cardinals with 20 points. This is the only Brodhead his player from the Stripe to reach double figures as he scored 8/11.
• JOHNSON CREEK 38, PARKVIEW 31: Friday night’s defensive slugfest in Orfordville ended in favor of the Blue Jays.
The Vikings were held to 15 points in the first half, with senior Chloe Mirke being the top scorer with 5 points. Johnson Creek was limited to his 23 points by halftime, with his three trays of Trinity Vallo leading the way.
Parkview stepped up their defensive game in the second half, limiting the Blue Jays to just 15 points, but were unable to muster their own offense.
Senior Camilla Hauser led the way for the Vikings with 14 points and two 3-pointers.
• ELKHORN 56, BIG FOOT 27: The Chiefs are on a nine-game losing streak after being shut down by host Elks on Saturday.
Playing without starters Sidney Wilson and Maia Gonzalez, Bigfoot struggled to produce on offense, facing a 37-14 deficit by halftime.
Junior Addie Larson scored a team-high seven points for Bigfoot, while Kirin Lyle led the Elks with 20 points.
