Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora sent a letter to Federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
He said yarn dumping had severely impacted the operation and survival of cotton mills in India, especially in Punjab.
In a letter to federal ministers, Arora said it was being sued through various forums and platforms to impose anti-dumping duties on polyester yarn (PSY) imports under the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Stated. It is a level playing field for Indian manufacturers.
Arora informed the minister that domestic polyester yarn manufacturers were obliged to pay an import duty of 5.5% on man-made fibres, making domestic manufacturers uncompetitive with imported PSY. PSY imports from China alone increased 88-fold,” he added.
Arora said that in August 2021, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) recommended that ADD be imposed on PSY originating from Indonesia, Vietnam and China.
