Interested in politics, where should I start? Are you ready to start your career away from your bedside and make a difference? Hosted a 3.5-day training session specifically designed for midwives. This is the first campaign school for nurses and midwives to be held May 24-27 in Durham, North Carolina.
Healing Politics is an educational, non-partisan, non-profit organization whose mission is to “inspire, motivate, recruit and train nurses and midwives to run for elected office, It’s about building a culture of civic participation within the profession.”
They believe nurses and midwives are eligible for public office, but many lack the right tools and knowledge. Healing Politics builds on basic nursing knowledge to:
-
encourage nurses to run for election
-
Identify nurses and midwives to run and support the community
-
Offer bipartisan training to help nurses run and win
-
Promote a professional culture that supports colleagues in politics
-
Working with researchers to add what we know about elected office nurses and midwives

The program will accommodate 50 participants by building a diverse group representing geographic, political, racial, cultural and socioeconomic diversity.
The program is $1095 and consists of $895 in tuition and $200 in fundraising. As stated on the website, fundraising is integral to any political campaign and is an important part of the Campaign School curriculum. During the program, students will learn how to campaign and feel more comfortable asking for support. To keep the campaign school’s overall tuition down, students are asked to raise $200 within 30 days of completing the program.
All meals are included in the program cost, as classes run from early morning until late afternoon. Hotel and transportation costs are not included and must be taken into account at the time of application. Duke University is near Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), which has hundreds of daily flights from all over the country. Currently, no official information about the hotel has been released.
