Dollar General opens a new store in Joplin, Missouri, expanding its store network to 19,000.
Retailers celebrated store openings by donating $19,000 to local elementary schools and 100 new books to Royal Heights Elementary School in Joplin to support ongoing literacy and education programs .
Customers were also given free DG gift cards, tote bags and product samples.
Royal Heights Elementary School Principal Breanna Faircross said:
“We are extremely grateful for Dollar General’s donation to further strengthen these efforts and bring us closer to achieving reading proficiency for all students.”

According to Dollar General, the addition of new stores will bring a range of positive financial benefits, including additional access to affordable products for customers.
It also creates new jobs, provides career development opportunities for employees, and paves the way for additional tax revenue.

Founded in 1939 as a wholesale business by JL Turner and his son Cal Turner Sr., Dollar General opened its first store in Springfield, Kentucky in 1955.
