Rep. Pamela Stevenson and others outlined how she wants to protect the freedoms of Kentuckians. Kentucky Republicans say she does not represent Kentucky values.
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Kentucky Rep. Pamela Stevenson formally ran for attorney general on Thursday.
She is the Democratic presumptive nominee and the first black woman to be nominated in Kentucky.
Freshman US Congressman Morgan McGarvey, former House Minority Leader Joni Jenkins, and former mayoral candidate Tim Findley attended the launch.
They convened at the Roots 101 African American Museum to outline how Stevenson is defending the freedoms of Kentuckians.
“This is the beginning of something new. We’re going to march right down the list: get rich…and that’s not what we’re aiming for,” she said.
Her opponent, Kentucky Attorney General nominee Russell Coleman, was a prominent figure in Louisville when he served as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky from 2017 to 2021.
The Kentucky Republican Party said in a statement prior to Stevenson’s event that she did not represent Kentucky’s values.
“Instead of taking the side of law enforcement, she was used to patty cakes with ‘peaceful protesters’ and defending police moves,” the group said.

Soft on Crime’s Pam Stevenson does not represent our Kentucky values. While crime is on the rise in Louisville, Stevenson is working in Frankfort to redefine “riot” in law. led the For anyone who wants to be Kentucky’s top cop, this is a bummer. Instead of taking the side of law enforcement, she was used to patty cakes with “peaceful protesters” and defending police moves.
This year, voters will have the opportunity to vote for a true leader in Russell Coleman. Russell Coleman, a former federal attorney, is the only candidate endorsed by the Kentucky Police Fraternity. He has spent his life putting violent criminals in prison and bringing justice to their victims. Russell Coleman supports blue, protects our families and makes Kentucky safe again.
