British Virgin Islands Prime Minister Dr Natario Wheatley has dismissed rumors that his government may move to an early general election.
Constitutionally, the general election is scheduled for mid-May, but there is widespread speculation that the election could be held as early as March.
The question was raised as to why the HOA was not dissolved instead of facilitating the conduct of elections, as the House of Representatives (HOA) closed a few weeks ago to conclude the fourth session of the 4th HOA. rice field.
However, Wheatley responded to these concerns when questioned by reporters at a recent press conference.
“I think the first meeting of the House of Commons in 2019 was in March, but I think it is March 12th, so the House of Commons must be dissolved by March 12th,” Wheatley said. and the reference to 2019 emphasized the previous general election.
“We are not going to have early elections.”
Prime Minister Wheatley further explained that in a framework agreement to implement the commission’s recommendations, his government had committed to completing a four-year term.
