British Virgin Islands Prime Minister Dr Natario Wheatley has denied rumors that his administration may be moving to hold an early general election.
Constitutionally, the general election is scheduled for mid-May, but there is widespread speculation that the election could be held as early as March.
As the House of Representatives (HOA) closed a few weeks ago to conclude its fourth session, questions were raised as to why the HOA was not dissolved in lieu of facilitating the conduct of elections.

However, Wheatley responded to these concerns when questioned by reporters at a recent press conference.
“I believe the first session of the House of Representatives in 2019 was in March, but I believe it was March 12. So the House must be dissolved by March 12.”
“We are not going to have early elections.”
Prime Minister Wheatley further explained that in a framework agreement to implement the commission’s recommendations, his government had committed to completing a four-year term.
The Prime Minister also confirmed his intention to lead the Virgin Islands Party to a presidential election.
