On January 26th at 7pm, Government Assistant Professor and Research Fellow David Azerrad presents “Narcissism, Awakening and the Modern Left” at the Formal Lounge.
Azerrad teaches at the Alan P. Kirby Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Civil Rights in Washington, DC, where he specializes in political topics such as classical liberalism, conservative political thought, and identity politics.
“The premise of my story is that conservatives don’t really understand the American left today because it’s fundamentally different from previous lefts in American history,” Azerrad said. “The modern American left is neither Marxist nor progressive. And it is clearly not liberal. It combines the celebration of the narcissistic self with the awakened fetishization of the victim. My focus is really understanding the mind of the left.”
Mary Greco, undergraduate program coordinator for Hillsdale, DC, said Azerrad will give students a better understanding of America’s current political environment.
“Students considering studying ‘overseas’ on the DC campus for one semester under the Washington Hillsdale Internship Program should come see one of the professors,” Greco said. “Azerrad teaches contemporary American political thought. This is a class focused on understanding what’s going on in America today. Classes include economics, trade, foreign policy, and feminism.” Completely changed my perspective on etc. I couldn’t recommend it enough.”
Hillsdale College students can register for the event on Handshake.
