The Angat and Ipo dams, both in Norzagaray, Bulacan province, opened several gates on Saturday to release water, according to PAGASA.
This was after heavy rainfall over the past few days caused the dam’s Reservoir Water Level (RWL) to reach or approach its runoff level.
At 6am on Saturday, three 8.5m high gates were open at the Angat Dam.
The Ipodum, on the other hand, was 9.2 meters high and had six open gates.
At 6am on Saturday, the RWL of Angat Dam was recorded at 215.03 meters.
Meanwhile, at 6am on Saturday, the Ipo Dam’s RWL was 101.04 meters, close to the NHWL’s 101.10 meters.
PAGASA said the Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Mimaropa (excluding Palawan), the Bicol Region, the Aurora Borealis, and Quezon City will experience cloudy skies with rain on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon. Moderate to occasional heavy rains can cause flash floods and landslides.
Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao, meanwhile, will see cloudy skies with interspersed rain and thunderstorms brought on by low pressure systems and shear-line troughs. Moderate to heavy rains can cause flooding and landslides. —KG, GMA Consolidated News
